Second Heart Homes Receives Donation from 100 Women Who Care Greater Sarasota

The Giving Coast

The local chapter of 100 Women Who Care employs the organization’s novel system: Members see and hear presentations from charities, three of which are selected as finalists who then vie for donations. Following Second Heart Homes’ fourth attempt, each member of “100 Women” contributed $100 toward the total. Second Heart Homes also will receive a $5,000 matching grant by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, resulting in a total of $26,500. “We are extremely grateful to have received the contributions,” said Megan Howell, founder and chief executive of Second Heart Homes. “We put it to immediate use by purchasing computers for every home in our program. This will allow our clients to enhance their skills through access to computer programs and webinars. They will also be able attend important online meetings for therapy, medical appointments and court proceedings.” A portion of the funds were used to specifically help one man, who had been homeless for six years, enter the Second Heart Homes program until a care manager helped him restore his benefits after being widowed.
