Regional Nonprofits Begin Entrepreneurial Exploration With The Patterson Foundation

The Giving Coast

Four regional nonprofit organizations have joined Margin & Mission Ignition, an entrepreneurial opportunity from The Patterson Foundation designed to build organizational capacity, boost revenue and strengthen mission impact. During a 30-month process, The Patterson Foundation connects these organizations with experts in nonprofit revenue generation from No Margin, No Mission, a social enterprise and national consulting firm. Through their guidance, each organization will learn proven business practices to develop and implement a customized earned-income plan. Previous participants have used their Margin & Mission Ignition exploration to launch or expand educational classes, venue rentals, thrift stores, consulting services, gift shops and other programs to create revenue beyond what they earn from traditional fundraising. With significant changes to the federal government’s longstanding systems for funding and supporting nonprofits continuing to unfold, funding diversification and self-sufficiency are becoming more important than ever for a nonprofit’s financial stability and operational capacity. Earned-income generation offers nonprofits a creative way to cultivate new sources of funding.
