Publix Grant $15,000 to Mayors Feed the Hungry for Holiday Food Assistance

The Giving Coast

Publix Super Markets has donated $15,000 to the Mayors Feed the Hungry Program to help families struggling with food insecurity this holiday season. The Mayors Feed the Hungry Program and its partner non-profit food pantries serve households in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. While the organizations still collect and distribute canned food and other non-perishable items, volunteers also strive to provide fresh ingredients. The Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program works with local service agencies to help alleviate food insecurity, especially during the holiday season, by providing food, meals, and gift cards. Food gift cards allow families to choose ingredients that they like and know how to prepare. Households can introduce some variety to their meals and account for allergies. And volunteers don’t have to worry about picking and choosing items to distribute to families with young children versus an older single person who might appreciate different groceries.
