Leadership matters. Perhaps now more than ever, strong communities need people who are willing to step forward, listen thoughtfully, inspire others and turn ideas into meaningful action. Leadership is not simply about holding a title or being at the head of an organization. It is about service, responsibility and the willingness to make a difference, whether in the workplace, through philanthropy, in government, or simply by showing up for the community.

Here in Sarasota, we are fortunate to be surrounded by individuals who embody those qualities every day. They remind us that the future of our community is shaped by people who invest their time, talent and passion in making it stronger.

That is why I am especially proud to invite our community to join us for the Celebrate Outstanding Leadership Awards, an annual luncheon presented by Leadership Sarasota and the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. This year's event recognizes five exceptional leaders whose contributions demonstrate the many ways leadership creates lasting impact.

Congratulations to our 2026 honorees: Lucy Nicandri, recipient of the Lifetime of Leadership Award; Fiona Farrell, recipient of the Impact in Action Award; Kari Queen, recipient of the Leadership Sarasota Dedication Award; Heather Todd, recipient of the Civic Champion Award; and David Verinder, recipient of the Community Catalyst Award.

Please join us on Wednesday, August 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Michael's On East for an afternoon of recognition, connection and inspiration. The luncheon brings together Leadership Sarasota alumni, Chamber members, business leaders and community members to celebrate those who continue to strengthen our region. Tickets are $95 for active Leadership Sarasota alumni and $110 for Chamber members, non-members and guests.

At a time when thoughtful, engaged and courageous leadership is so important, recognizing those who lead by example reminds us of what is possible when people choose to serve others and invest in their community.
