One of Southwest Florida’s most beloved regional grocers, Detwiler's Farm Market, is making its way to North Port in a deal brokered by Michael Saunders and Co. (MSC) Commercial Division. Detwiler’s began as a farmers market and is now a full-scale store with meats, seafood, deli items, pies and produce.

Tammy Shaw, one of MSC’s senior commercial advisors, worked with the Orlando-based Sentinel Fund to lease negotiations with Detwiler’s. Shaw reached out to Susan Goldstein, another senior commercial advisor, who has worked with Detwiler’s since 2016.

“Detwiler’s has been looking at North Port and has been scouting the market,” Goldstein says.

The new Detwiler’s will be 53,000 square feet–the current largest sits at 49,000 square feet in Palmetto–and will be located at the new retail center being developed by Sentinel Fund on Sumter Boulevard.

“It has a great location right at the interstate at Sumter and I-75, so it will have great exposure, and there will be a lot of synergy in this space,” says David Perry, MSC Commercial Division Director. “It’s going to pull people from Fort Myers and Port Charlotte there as well.”

This addition will be the southernmost store for Detwiler’s and is projected to open in the fourth quarter of 2028.

“Up until now, if people wanted to go to a Detwiler’s, they would have to leave the community,” Goldstein says. “There will be more employment, and it will really be a win-win for the community.”

Perry emphasizes the economic and employment impact the new Detwiler’s will foster, as 125-150 part-time jobs will be introduced, along with construction jobs throughout the build.

Shopping at Detwiler’s is a weekly occurrence for Goldstein, and she praises the community-driven mindset the market promotes.

“It’s a fun experience to shop there,” she says. “The staff is incredibly friendly and engaging. You can see that the staff is very committed to the organization in the way they serve you.”
