Argument of Time, a new Sarasota-based arts nonprofit founded by poet Teresa Carson and producer Cynthia Burnell, has received a $5,000 grant from the Johnson Singer Foundation to support an October 2026 residency bringing together six artists to develop “Visit to an Extinct City,” a multidisciplinary performance project inspired by the ancient Roman city of Ostia Antica. The five-day residency, October 9-13 in Sarasota, marks the next stage in the development of a project that began with Carson’s poetry about Ostia Antica, the remarkably preserved ruins of an ancient Roman port city outside Rome. The work has since grown into a collaboration among theater artists, a director, a musician and Carson, who have been developing the project remotely.
