A groundbreaking event was held in June, at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery, celebrating the 4 1/2-acre expansion of its property to accommodate additional burial plots. Attending was city planning, landscape architecture, and engineering professionals, along with representatives of the Jewish Federation of Sarasota/Manatee, TBS Cemetery committee members, and guests. Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery was established in 1932 and is a beautiful property on Circus Blvd bordering Bobby Jones Golf Course. Its 8-plus acres are the only exclusively Jewish-owned “community” cemetery in the area. The right to be buried at the TBS Cemetery extends to any Jew, whether a TBS member, a member of another congregation, anyone unaffiliated, or any non-Jewish significant other. The current 2000 plots will be approximately doubled in the expansion and should be sufficient to serve our community for the next 45 years. TBS works with all funeral homes and clergy in the area to assist families.
