The Women’s Resource Center (WRC), in partnership with the Florida Policy Institute, recently convened a coalition of community leaders from Sarasota and Manatee counties to better understand the potential impacts of the property tax amendment on the November ballot. More than 75 representatives from the nonprofit, philanthropy, business, and government sectors have come together in person and virtually over the last month to discuss the funding and service implications of the proposed Amendment 3: Increased Homestead Exemption. It is estimated that the combined revenue loss for both counties is about $400 million, which will impact funding for public safety, roads, libraries, social services, and more. The primary objective of the nonpartisan coalition is to share information and collaborate on strategies to educate voters about the possible ramifications if the amendment passes.
