On Sunday, August 17 at 1:00 PM, 180 Skate will host its Fourth Annual Changing Lanes Bowling Tournament at Bowlero Gulf Gate—a fun afternoon of bowling, prizes, pizza and community, all in support of local youth.
Founded in 2013 by Sarasota native Tim Storck, 180 Skate is a 501(c)(3) faith-based nonprofit dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space for kids to skate, connect and grow. The idea began when Storck, then a youth director at First Baptist Church, noticed kids skating outside. He set up ramps in the church parking lot and invited them to skate and attend youth group. As interest grew, he built a small indoor skatepark above the church gym—and 180 Skate was born. Since then, Storck has expanded the mission to include skate trips, contests, camps and year-round programs that help kids thrive. The organization now hosts after-school programs, summer camps and community outreach events like Changing Lanes.
This year’s tournament invites bowlers of all ages to participate. Tickets are $65 for ages 13 and up, $25 for kids 12 and under or $250 for a team of four. Each ticket includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza and unlimited soft drinks. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. Spectators and cheerleaders are encouraged to join the fun.
All proceeds from 180 Skate's fundraising go directly toward the organization's youth programs, helping cover the cost of skate gear, safety equipment and mentoring opportunities.
“We often hear from parents who didn’t realize the impact skateboarding would have on their kids—it’s been transformative for so many people,” Storck says.
