Almost a Century Ago, The Circus Came to Sarasota.

BrandStory

This season, Asolo Repertory Theatre celebrates that legacy with its 2026–27 season, The Greatest Season on Earth. 1927 was a year that changed everything. Charles Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic. Duke Ellington made his Cotton Club debut. Talking pictures arrived. And John Ringling brought the Greatest Show on Earth home to Sarasota. Across eight productions, Asolo Rep celebrates the centennial of the circus in Sarasota with big stories, reimagined classics and two world premieres. The season travels from the movie musical magic of Singin’ in the Rain and the blues of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom to intimate stories on the new Second Stage and a world premiere musical inspired by Sarasota’s own circus community. A century later, what new dreams might we dare to dream?
