Licking The Spoon

Hunting & Gathering

Kristine Insalaco-Gaioni is one of those people that inspires adjectives like “vivacious.” She’s a nurse by trade and hails from Massachusetts before moving to Sarasota 20 years ago. She 10 years ago met and married Fabio Gaoini, a visitor from Italy who was in town filming a documentary. Kristine had always made jams and sauces and in 2009 she and Fabio decided to open a food distribution business called Sapore della Vita (Taste of Life). Their products range from Italian delicacies to all-natural, organic condiments and are featured at many gourmet food shops and farmer’s markets. Kristine’s small batch caramel sauce “Lick My Spoon” just won San Francisco’s ‘Good Food Award’ for the second consecutive year. According to their website “The Good Food Awards celebrate the kind of food we all want to eat: tasty, authentic and responsibly produced.” How exciting that a small business from Sarasota has been recognized in such a positive manner in a national arena. I intended to try the caramel sauce in various recipes, as suggested by Kristine, such as the glaze for Salmon or stirred into my morning coffee. Instead I went home and ate the entire jar standing at my kitchen counter. I did, indeed, lick my spoon.
