Unspooling a Sticky Bun from OfKors

Good Bite

OfKors, 3945 Cattlemen Road

The humble rise of the OfKors family of bakeries has flown a little under the radar. Nonetheless, their Main Street flagship quickly became a staple for Downtown pedestrians and their Cattlemen Road location has, in spite of its out-of-the-way location, managed to keep the sweet treats coming even when a certain chain sandwich shop next door shuttered its doors. That success rests largely on the sweet, wheaty shoulders of its baked goods.

With an ever-evolving assortment of rolls, loaves and viennoiserie pastries, a gauge of the bakery’s breadth of talent requires frequent visits. This week, the bakery offered a coconut roll with the look of a tightly-coiled spool of dough. Fluffy, flaky, gently sweetened with a glaze and a touch tropical with the shredded coconut, the roll ate somewhere between a doughy Hawaiian roll and a cinnamon roll, without any of the latter’s propensity to induce drowsiness or diabetic shock. To preserve the beauty of the spiral, eat it by unspooling it from the outside in. It also pairs perfectly with a cappuccino, of kors.

OfKors on Cattlemen Road is open Monday - Friday from 7 am to 8 pm, and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 5 pm.
